Affordable Housing Advisors was founded in 1987, shortly after the enactment of the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code. It was then that Paul Davis, an attorney working as a real estate broker with a boutique brokerage firm, identified an opportunity within the affordable housing sector and pioneered the brokerage of affordable housing.
In 1998, Paul moved AHA to Marcus & Millichap, which provided a national platform and the best-in-class resources needed to deliver premier service to clients throughout the country. Soon after, Paul obtained the largest multi-family listing in the firm’s history, 89 HUD-financed Project-Based Section 8 communities (approximately 12,000 units) located in 27 states. Paul began growing his team, which included the hiring and mentoring of Andy Daitch in 1999. As AHA achieved unprecedented success within the affordable housing industry, the company added key personnel including Steve Miscavish, Seth Barnett and Matt Kurzmann – whom, along with Paul and Andy, now comprise the Executive Team at AHA. Fast forward to 2019, AHA includes a team of expert underwriters, a marketing group of creative thinkers, the most experienced escrow team in the industry, a comprehensive research team supported by Marcus & Millichap’s industry leading research division and a brokerage team with more than 100 years of combined experience in affordable housing.
Today, AHA continues its leadership position, brokering more than $1 billion in affordable housing transactions annually. Since Paul founded the company in 1987, AHA has achieved sales of more than 200,000 government subsidized housing units throughout the United States, valued in excess of $9 billion.
